The 2005 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon beautifully expresses the full aromatic ripeness of this exemplary vintage. It is full bodied and yet refined, and consistent in its color, aroma, palate and finish. It has a dark garnet color and a nose of black cherry, clove, cinnamon, lavender and licorice. It is seamless on the palate with a solid core of berry fruit, velvety tannins and excellent length. With proper cellaring it should give drinking pleasure through 2032.

The Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley, but there are now close to 33,000 cases being produced. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (32,000 cases of a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot) may turn out to be the finest since the mid-1990s. A big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, licorice, smoke, hickory barbecue spices, and cherries jumps from the glass of this dark plum/ruby/purple-colored wine. Expansive, full-bodied, and voluptuous with opulent texture, this is a juicy, fleshy Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 12-14 years. Robert Parker 94 points (Feb 2005)
